Lawhead’s sister, Terry Lawhead Steele, 71, was arrested in South Carolina on an accessory charge. Investigators discovered she owned a home where her brother was living in Bullhead City. Despite claiming to authorities that she had not heard from her brother “in more than 20 years,” records showed she had remained in contact with him. A search warrant revealed evidence that she had owned the property where he was staying and had maintained the relationship while he evaded justice.

Justice Delivered

Sheriff Woo announced the arrest at a press conference, emphasizing the institutional persistence that finally solved the case. “This case has seen many chapters,” Montgomery County officials said in a statement. “But through persistence, through working together, we have identified the person responsible for her death.” For Wanner’s family, the arrest marked the beginning of closure-not the end of grief, but the possibility of accountability after 35 years of waiting.
