The franchise owner emphasized that the safety of staff and customers was the top priority stating, “As a Brooklyn-born military veteran and local business owner for over 30 years, I have deep respect for this community. This measure to ID customers is another way we’re prioritizing the safety and security of our people within our lobby.” He also suggested the ID check could be a temporary measure until the situation improves, according to ABC 7.

For now, the ID policy remains in place, supported by three security guards who enforce the rule. The effectiveness of this strategy remains to be seen, as some teenagers still managed to enter without issue. High schoolers in the area noted that the age limit had previously been set at 18 before being raised to 20 - a choice that many found puzzling.
