When the summer doldrums threatened to sap student motivation at St. Joseph High School, gym coach Luis Escobar introduced a creative solution: teaming up students with shelter dogs needing exercise and affection. The program caught national attention when a video showcasing the students running with their canine partners went viral. This exposure prompted numerous schools across the country to adopt similar programs.
