A luxury Bel-Air neighborhood was rocked in May 2025 when a man allegedly drove his car through the front gate of actress Jennifer Aniston’s home. It wasn’t a stunt for a movie. Instead, what unfolded was an unsettling real-life incident involving a celebrity, a crash, and allegations of months-long harassment that has now prompted serious legal and mental health concerns.
A Shocking Midday Intrusion
The incident happened just after noon on May 5, when officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Los Angeles station were called to the 900 block of Airole Way for what was initially reported as a burglary.
Upon arrival, police discovered the front gate of Aniston’s property severely damaged - the result of a vehicle reportedly ramming through it. Armed private security, already on the scene, had detained the suspect at gunpoint until officers took him into custody. The man was later identified as 48-year-old Jimmy Wayne Carwyle of New Albany, Mississippi.
The Suspect’s Background and Arrest
Carwyle sustained back injuries during the crash and was taken to the hospital after being apprehended. Authorities later booked him on suspicion of felony vandalism.
But the story didn’t stop there.
Within days, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office had formally charged Carwyle with both felony vandalism and stalking.
According to prosecutors, he had allegedly been harassing Aniston since at least March 2023 - sending her repeated messages via email, voicemail, and social media. Some of the social posts reportedly referred to the actress as his wife.
Aniston’s representatives declined to comment publicly on the matter.
A Courtroom Turn
When Carwyle appeared in court, he was shirtless and wrapped in a blanket behind a glass partition. His public defender entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. However, both the judge and prosecutors raised concerns about his mental state and sought a psychiatric evaluation.
A county-appointed psychiatrist found Carwyle mentally incompetent to stand trial, although Carwyle has demanded a second opinion.
Neither the prosecutors nor the defense has commented on the psychiatrist’s finding. Carwyle remains jailed for the time being.
No Contact With Aniston
Police confirmed Aniston was home during the incident but emphasized she never came into contact with the suspect.
The LAPD’s Threat Management Unit, which has handled similar celebrity-related cases in the past, is now leading the investigation. Authorities continue to review Carwyle’s background and social media activity to determine whether additional threats or incidents occurred prior to the crash.
