Galveston Hurricane of 1900

In September 1900, the Galveston Hurricane hit Texas, claiming between 6,000 to 12,000 lives. The Category 4 storm brought 20-foot storm surges and flash flooding, destroying over 3,600 homes. This hurricane remains the deadliest in U.S. history.

Hurricane Mitch

Hurricane Mitch made landfall in northern Honduras as a Category 1 hurricane in October 1998. After dissipating near the Guatemala-Honduras border, its remnants redeveloped into a tropical storm, crossing south Florida and becoming extratropical. Katrina became a hurricane in August 2005 near Miami, Florida. It reached Category 5 intensity with 175 mph winds before making landfall in Louisiana as a Category 3 storm on August 29.
