The Wildest Crimes Captured on Ring® Cams
By Maria W.. Aug 24, 2024
Ring® cameras have become extra eyes watching over neighborhoods. They’ve recorded bad guys in the act, like criminals attempting to break into houses or steal from yards. These cameras record clear videos of what’s happening outside, which helps police find the criminals and keep everyone safe. Here are three crimes that have been recorded on Ring cameras.
Peeping Tom
Imagine the shock of seeing someone spying on your home from your porch every time you check your phone. Sadly, this disturbing scene has played out not once, but four times since February for an Albuquerque woman, with the camera capturing each unnerving intrusion at her home near the University of New Mexico.

This behavior is clearly trespassing, and the homeowner reported the troubling incidents to the Albuquerque Police Department. However, the intruder captured on video simply peeks through the windows and then vanishes – making him difficult to catch. And police can address the issue as trespassing, but the lack of immediate harm limits their initial response. One bit of good news, though: If officers are repeatedly called back to the same property because of the same trespasser, police can take more serious action. Hopefully, Albuquerque police have retired the local peeping Tom by now.
Sinister Stranger
What a nightmare for Fatima Suarez and her family. For more than a year, a woman allegedly harassed the family by insulting them, stealing their mail, and vandalizing their property.
Ring doorbell footage captured the woman shouting at the camera, rifling through their mail, and unleashing a barrage of racist comments. Suarez said she and her family were terrified. The incidents occurred in 2022 and into early 2023.

Suarez, who is of Mexican descent, shared the footage on TikTok, where it quickly gathered millions of views. In February 2023, the Circuit Attorney’s Office announced it had expedited the warrant application for the case. The next day, Judy Kline of St. Louis was formally charged with burglary, property damage, and unlawful use of a weapon. A few months later, authorities added a federal civil rights charge to the list.
Killer Caught
On Jan. 26, 2022, police in South Norfolk, Virginia, responded to a call and discovered 42-year-old Lavance Flora suffering from a gunshot wound. Flora later died. Investigators quickly uncovered Ring doorbell footage that captured Johnnie Warner III, 45, firing four shots at the victim. In March 2024, Warner was convicted of first-degree murder and received a 26-year prison sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony.

Ring doorbell cameras can be helpful in recording evidence of crimes. These cameras can also make people think twice before doing something wrong because they know they’re being watched. As technology improves, these cameras will keep making our neighborhoods safer, showing how technology and safety can work together to protect everyone.
