On the morning of June 27, Plantation police responded to reports of someone trapped in a clothing donation box on West Federated Roadway, about 30 miles north of Miami. When officers arrived, they discovered a deceased middle-aged woman partially stuck in the opening of the large pink bin, which was labeled “Clothes & shoes donation center,” according to USA Today.

A Possible Accident

According to Plantation police, the woman was dead by the time officers arrived at the scene. Police believe the incident appears to have been accidental but confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.

While the woman’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her next of kin, authorities described her as middle-aged and experiencing homelessness at the time of the incident.

Witnesses initially reported seeing the woman stuck in the box's opening and called police. Plantation Police spokesperson Chavez Grant later told USA TODAY that investigators suspect she may have asphyxiated while attempting to retrieve items from the box.
