8 New Corvettes Vanish in Kentucky

On the surface, it looked like a scene from a Hollywood heist movie - brand-new Corvettes vanishing into the night, leaving behind little more than tire marks and questions. But the plot thickened in a quiet Kentucky neighborhood, where a red Corvette^® still wearing its dealership sticker tipped off police to what authorities now call a $1.2 million auto theft operation.

A Corvette in the Wrong Place

It all began in Bowling Green, Kentucky - home to the General Motors^® Corvette Assembly Plant. Deputies responded to an unusual call: a bright red Corvette was spotted idling in an apartment complex with a price tag still in the window.

A witness saw a man exit the car and walk toward the building’s entrance, raising suspicion. Law enforcement quickly confirmed the vehicle was one of eight missing from the plant’s back lot. Investigators say the cars were driven through a hole cut into the facility’s fence - a coordinated effort that police believe involved at least nine people.

Enter Deantae Walker

That same day, Deantae Walker, 21, of Westland, Michigan, was arrested after a brief foot chase through a parking lot.

Bodycam footage captured the moment officers apprehended Walker wearing a green pullover sweatshirt - the same attire seen in surveillance video from the car plant. Police say Walker refused to speak during his booking, but according to jail staff, he allegedly made a telling statement saying, “If I would have made it back to Michigan, I would have been paid big,” according to WHAS.

A Transport Gone Wrong

Investigators also heard from a car hauler who had been contacted by two men - one allegedly Walker - to transport a 2017 Corvette and three 2025 models to Detroit. The hauler reported the interaction felt “weird” and that the vehicles were rushed onto his trailer despite visible undercarriage damage, according to WHAS. That tip added a crucial piece to the puzzle and helped police recover all eight missing cars.

Charges and an Ongoing Investigation

Walker now faces multiple charges, including receiving stolen property, fleeing and evading police, resisting arrest, and first-degree criminal mischief.

Walker is the only person arrested in connection with the heist so far. The identities of his alleged co-conspirators remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
